Prof. Daniel Fletcher
UC Berkeley, USA
Daniel Fletcher is Professor of Bioengineering and Biophysics at UC Berkeley and the Pernendu Chatterjee Chair of Engineering Biological Systems. He and his laboratory investigate how molecular-scale parts assemble into micron-scale systems, with a focus on cell movements and cell-cell interactions, and develop technologies for disease diagnosis, with a special interest in neglected tropical diseases. Dr. Fletcher is also a Chan-Zuckerberg Biohub Investigator, Faculty Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Visiting Investigator at the Gladstone Institute of Virology, and currently serves as Faculty Director of the Blum Center for Developing Economies at UC Berkeley. He served as Chair of the Bioengineering Department from 2015 to 2019. Dr. Fletcher received a B.S. from Princeton University, a D.Phil. from Oxford University where he was a Rhodes Scholar, and a Ph.D. from Stanford University as an NSF Graduate Research Fellow. He is an elected Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and served as a White House Fellow in the Office of Science and Technology Policy at the beginning of the Obama administration.
